Rapunzel Halloween

and for Halloween Nora dressed as....

Of course we had to dress Nora as Rapunzel.  She watches the movie "Tangled" about twice a day now.  Picking Rapunzel was a no brainer but as it turns out, the costume was a bit of work.  Jaime made some size modifications for Nora's little shoulders and re-arranged Rapunzel's hair extension so Nora wouldn't have it under her head.  There was also glitter management - the dress is a glitter bomb.  There is glitter everywhere!  Even after a bath, Nora somehow still has glitter on her cheeks.... not those cheeks.

On Sunday we went to Boo as the zoo which is the same event we went to last year and had our elephant experience.  This year, for reasons we won't go into, they dropped the elephant program and just kept the trick or treating portion.  We contacted the Zoo early and asked if they could accommodate us again this year and of course, they said "yes".  So we arrived after arguing with the parking attendant about handicapped parking - arg.  They immediately took us down the (now familiar) back alley of the zoo so we could skip the crown.

Speaking of crowd, last year there seemed to be about 500 people at the event, this year there had to be close to 3000 people.  They had the crowd blocked off with a barrier - kind of like the starting point to a race.  Everyone was poised and ready to bolt to the "treat trail" once the barrier was removed.  We kind of expected they would put us up in the front of the crowd.

What we didn't expect was being escorted past the barrier and to the first trick or treat station and allowed to basically start about 20 minutes before everyone else.  So we had the entire place to ourselves which was fantastic and honestly a bit awkward.  We could feel the stare of the hundred of people behind us wondering why we got to go so early.  Once we got about 5 stations into getting treats, we no longer cared.  We remembered last year when Nora was clearly saying "Tank Ooo" at each treat station but sadly, SMA has taken that from her.  This year Nora simply smiled at each person in turn.  Also, for some reason most people that see Nora in her stroller comment on how sleepy she appears to be.  They say things like "somebody's sleepy" or "is somebody tired?"  This event was no different but it had a twist.  There were 5 people who said "oh, look she's sleeping beauty" despite Nora's obvious 3 foot long hair braid.  We just though it was kind of funny in an awkward laugh sort of way.

Trick or treating

We took Nora out with the goal of hitting a few of our neighbors and returning to the house.  Now that our neighborhood has added a few dozen more homes since last year, our street was much more busy.  We stuck to the plan and hit the houses, occasionally getting the tough question "What's your favorite candy?".  We usually reply with our own favorite candy since we take on the hard job of eating the candy for Nora.  Incidentally, Jaime's favorite is Heath bars (yuk) and mine is any form of Reese's - the marriage of chocolate and peanut butter is magical.  So once we completed our trick or treat block we returned home and handed out candy for the remainder of the evening. So overall we had a very fun and memorable Halloween.
